So tonight I went to a dinner theater to watch Seussical the Musical. It was pretty much a number of Dr. Seuss stories put to music and wrapped together. The ultimate story was around the story, “Horton Hears a Who.” It was very well done and I found myself humming some of the songs on my ride home. While I was humming the one song / phrase that continued to stay in my head was the song that had the line in it… “A Person’s a Person No Matter How Small.”
In short, Horton protected the tiny world of Whoville, because he believed this one truth! Although everyone else told him he was crazy, he continued to believe in them, and fight to keep them alive.
The beautiful thing here that God brought to my attention on my way home is that God believes the same truth, and does the same thing! Could He sit in Heaven and not pay any attention to us down here? Of course He could, but He doesn’t. Could Jesus have ignored the little children while he was on earth?
Of course He could have…but He didn’t.
God is a firm believer in youth, and allowing the young generation to be a powerful force in His kingdom.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12
Because I couldn’t decide between two Bible verses, here’s another scripture on this point:
“People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” – Luke 18:15-17
Maybe you are a middle school or high school student reading this that doesn’t believe they have a say in anything. Maybe you can’t wait for the day you get older. I encourage you to look at these verses and see how God wants you to use your youth, make a difference / be an example and a light for God right where you are and not let anyone tell you otherwise.
Maybe you are young in your career or “young” in terms of where you are in life.
The world likes to tell us that if we aren’t at the top of the corporate ladder, or if we don’t have our life in complete order (family, kids, white picket fence, etc.) that we are a failure, and we should change. But that’s not what God says, God tells the YOUTH the be the example for others. He tells the YOUTH that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to them!

Simply put, God loves every person. And just as Horton believes, so does God…
A PERSON’S A PERSON, NO MATTER HOW SMALL!
