6 Keys To A Healthy Relationship

relationships

Relationships, every single person’s favorite topic. (I’m kidding.) This post was written for singles (Men and woman.) and people that are already in relationships.

The first thing that I want to clear up for single people is the question of; “Is there anyone for me?” Or “Maybe I’m just supposed to be alone.” Yes, God has called some of us to that life; however, He also said that it is not good for man to be alone. 1 Corinthians 7:8-9 says, “To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.”

Key words to focus on in this: Burn with passion. If you are like me and have burned with passion for a significant other; you’ll end up with someone. Few people have the gift of celibacy, most don’t. To put this as simple as possible, if you struggle with lust, then ending up with someone is for you and there is someone for you!

6 keys to a healthy relationship:

Honor him/her both now and later.
What are you doing now that he/she will or will not appreciate? If the right man or woman was to walk into your life right now, does your life reflect a life that would be ready for them? A great way to remember to honor him / her is to pray for your future husband/wife; even now. This will keep you focused on the prize!

Focus on yourself before focusing on him/her.
Relationships are maximizers, not minimizers. It begins and ends with you. You need to be stable in who you are in Christ and as a man or woman before bringing someone else into the picture. Don’t let not having a significant other be your excuse for not growing up. Your joy and stability cannot rely on him/her that needs to come from God.

Don’t surprise others by how well you treat him/her.
Until you find the person you will be in relationship with; treat the people in your life the way that you plan to treat him/her. If you treat your friends and family poorly, don’t expect yourself to treat your significant other differently long term. Treat others so well that they know you will treat a man/woman amazingly in your future.

Become famous at home.
Make it a goal in your life to become famous in your home. Put your time and energy into your home, not into the world. Before committing to the world, commit to the home. Before others are impressed by you, the people in your home should be. Your biggest fan should be your husband/wife.

The secret to a great relationship is meeting the needs that you don’t have.
What you don’t need is often what your significant other will need. That’s who Jesus was for us. He came and lived a perfect life for us, then died for us. He met the needs that each of us have, even though he didn’t. Always strive to meet the needs that you do not have, no matter how difficult it may be!

Keep Jesus the center.
If it isn’t about Jesus, it isn’t worth talking about. That is your most important relationship. A relationship will not work the way that it is supped to without Christ being the center of it. If one thing speaks to you in this post, let it be this. Most importantly, get yourself right with Jesus or everything else is for nothing.

  1. Love the paragraph, “Become famous at home” in your post. I personally think that this is where alot of people miss the boat and causes strains on marriages and relationships in general. Great read!
