Rock and a Hard Place

Hard Place

The latest additions to the zoo I keep at my house are Mr. T & Peter. They are two adorable, aquatic turtles that my sweet boyfriend bought me for Christmas. Over the last few months I have really enjoyed watching them adjust to their new environment and try new things.

Lately, Mr. T has been trying to climb onto the large rock in the tank that I refer to as, Pride Rock, (Lion King fans!). The other day I watched as he tried to climb up the side of the rock and the poor little guy fell right on his shell. I panicked at first, and went to help him, but before I could he was already trying to climb again! I watched him repeat this sequence 12 times! Not 1, not 2, not 3….but 12!

When he finally made it to the top, he stretched all his fingers and toes, reached his head towards the light and just rested. All of this made me think to myself, how many times do I fall in my walk with Christ or just in life? Do I always get back up and try again? Would I be willing to try 12 TIMES?

The difference between us and Mr. T is that we constantly have Jesus to help us back up when we fall. He is there after each stumble reaching His arms out to bring us back up. However, how often do we try something once, pray about it, and then not get the answer we wanted and assume it’s a failure? Your breakthrough could be in the next try.

Whatever you are going through, don’t give up. Even if you have fallen back and it doesn’t seem possible to try again – just pray harder and give it one more try. You never know, your breakthrough could be right around the corner.

“But you, God, shield me on all sides; You ground my feet, you lift my head high; With all my might I shout up to God, His answers thunder from the holy mountain.” Psalm 3:3-4

“We couldn’t relax because we didn’t know how it would turn out. Then the God who lifts up the downcast lifted our heads and our hearts….” 2 Corinthians 7:6-7
