I think it’s pretty safe to guess that at one point or another we have all felt like a nobody, we don’t feel as if we fit into this world, and feel like a failure no matter how hard we try. But take heart and read this passage from John;
John 15:18-21; “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21 But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. (ESV)
It’s hard to keep an eye on the good of the spiritual world when our earthly world is depressing and tearing us down. But you are more powerful than you know.
I just got done reading, “The Great Divorce,” by C.S. Lewis and came across a portion of the book that is amazing. I wanted to share it with you here too, but I do need to lay some ground work. The main character is in Heaven but in no way, shape, or form does C.S. Lewis mean for this book (or the below passage) to be taken literal. I personally believe something very similar to this will happen when we get to Heaven but who knows exactly how it will look when we get there.
“Is it?…Is it? I whispered to my guide.
‘Not at all,’ he said. ‘It’s someone ye’ll never have heard of. Her name on Earth was Sarah Smith and she lived at Golders Green.’
‘She seems to be….well, a person of particular importance?’
‘Aye. She is one of the great ones. Ye have heard that fame in this country and fame on Earth are two quite different things.’
‘And who are these gigantic people…look! They’re like emeralds….who are dancing and throwing flowers before her?’
…..And who are all these young men and women on each side?’
‘They are her sons and daughters.’
‘She must have had a very large family, Sir.’
‘Every young man or boy that met her became her son—even if it was only the boy that brought the meat to her back door. Every girl that met her was her daughter.’
‘Isn’t that a bit hard on her own parents?’
‘There are those that steal other people’s children. But her motherhood was of a different kind. Those on whom it fell went back to their natural parents loving them more. Few men looked on her without becoming in a certain fashion, her lovers. But it was the kind of love that made them not less true, but truer, to their own wives.’
Whether you know it or not you are doing battle in the spiritual world as we speak. When people here on earth tell you you’re a nobody and you will never amount to anything is a bunch of garbage! To be honest, when you hear that kind of junk, I fully believe that is from the enemy. He knows that once you find out how powerful you are not only on earth, but in the spiritual world, you will do a lot of damage to him. But it’s up to you to believe in yourself and in God and his plan/purpose for your life. If you live your life “soul’d out” for Jesus, you will receive the same exact welcoming party as Sarah Smith from above.
So, what’s holding you back?
